1. Analytical thinking and problem solving: 

Business Analysts must have analytical thinking and problem solving skill for analysing problems and opportunities for business, analyse valuable changes and  work with stakeholder to understand the effect of those changes. They use this skill to analyse the situations , value of changes and for other complex idea. Analytical Thinking and Problem Solving core competencies include:
   
      • Creative Thinking 
      • Decision Making 
      • Learning
      • Problem Solving 
      • Systems Thinking
      • Conceptual Thinking
      • Visual Thinking. 

  2  Behavioural Characteristics:

Behavioural characteristics are not unique but help to increase personal effectiveness in practice of business analysis. Behaviour characteristics also effect the outcome of practitioner's efforts. Its core competencies focus on behaviour that help business analysts to gain the trust and respect of stakeholders. Behavioural Characteristics core competencies are:
  • Ethics
  • Personal accountability
  • Trustworthiness
  • Organization and time management
  • Adaptability

 3  Business Knowledge:

Business knowledge is important to perform effectively within business, organization, solutions, and methodology. Business knowledge help business analysts to understand better about structure or design, benefits and value of situation as it relates to change or need.
Business Knowledge underlying competencies are :
  • Business Acumen
  • Industry knowledge
  • Organization Knowledge
  • Solution Knowledge
  • Methodology knowledge

4  Communication Skills:

Communication is a act of sending information to receiver by sender in any method such as verbal or non-verbal. Good communications benefits all stakeholder. Effective communicators know that tone, body language and context can change the meaning of words. For Effective communication, planning must be done like structure of information, what is known to receiver, method of sending information and receiver's expectations. Each part of information must be written clear so that receiver can understand and read it.Communication Skills core competencies are:
  • Verbal Communication
  • Non- verbal Communication
  • Written Communication
  • Listening

5  Interaction Skills:

Interaction skills are included business analysts' s abilities that how they cooperate, relate and communicate with different people like sponsors, customers, team members, colleagues, development professionals, developers etc. Interaction Skills core competencies are:

  • Facilitation
  • Leadership and influencing
  • Teamwork
  • Negotiation and Conflict Resolution
  • Teaching

6  Tools and Technology:

Business analysts us a lot of  software applications for creating and maintain requirements, model concepts, track issues and for increasing productivity.  For examples, word processing tools using for requirements documentation, prototyping and simulation tools used for developing business requirements, presentation for shoeing ideas to stakeholders etc. Business Analysis Tools and Technology core competencies are:  

  • Office productivity tools and technology
  • Business analysis tools and technology
  •  Communications tools and technology

  1. At Scotiabank, in addition to the functional competencies, to become a business analyst it is required to have specific business knowledge. This specific knowledge will depend on the area of the bank that the business analyst will work. Some examples of the bank related skills / knowledge required are:
    • Financial management skills
    • Back office systems and Fund accounting applications
    • Capital Markets Environment / technology
    For some BA positions, some certifications are also required, as follows:
    • BA certification (CBAP or other)
    • CSPO/PSPO, CSM/PSM, PMP

  2. Scotia bank is a huge banking organisation and to be a part of this big company as a business analyst is a challenge. For this Business analyst should have certain type of skills. As the skills mention in this blog, Analytical skills in which the Business analyst have to think critically, along with this one have a good speaker to control the group members as a team work means communication skills. I think Business analyst is package of many skills which he/she have to perform in the organisation while performing the tasks

  3. Being a business analyst requires you to complete a lot of various tasks, becoming a business analyst for Scotia Bank is no different. To be a Business analyst it requires a set of learned skills. in this chapter we learn that some of those skills are; problem solving, communication, interaction and tech skills, along with others. I especially took note of the behavioural skills that are required such as:
    ethics
    adaptability
    trustworthiness
    I feel as though these are very key skills that anyone in the business world should possess especially a position as versatile and wide as the business analyst.
